India tops in requesting content deletion, info from Google

Google has introduced a government requests app that lists the number of requests it received from governments for information about user profiles and removal of websites, blogs, etc., from its contents.
The tool right now shows the number of government requests for removal of content or information about users received during July 2009-December 2009.

Indian ranks third with 142 requests in the content removal category and stands fourth with 1,061 requests in the data requests category.
Google says: "For Brazil and India, government requests for content removal are high relative to other countries in part because of the popularity of our social networking website, Orkut. The majority of the Brazilian and Indian requests for removal of content from Orkut relate to alleged impersonation or defamation."
