Thankfully, after many years, Linux is becoming much easier for the average person to use. Ubuntu is the best example of this and I think that within 5 years or so, Ubuntu ans Mac will both be major competition for Microsoft on the desktop!
The reality of why Windows has the majority of the Market share isn't quite this simple. It has more to do with them getting their foot in the door earlier than everyone else. Change is something that most people aren't willing to accept...that's the real reason if you ask me.
